SF Notes #8

Just before Flight to California

The flight to California involved a two-and-three-quarter hours stopover and change of planes in Singapore and a forty-five-minute refueling stop in Tokyo. Asit wanted Krishnaji to come to his place in Singapore for breakfast, and he assured us that it was possible to get off the plane, get through immigration, get to his place, have breakfast, get back to the airport, check in, and board the plane on time. I had my doubts that this was feasible but was willing to give it a try. The day before we left, I suggested to Krishnaji and after his agreement to Asit, that if our plane was more than one half hour late in arriving in Singapore, that we would not attempt it. Even with the full two hours and forty-five minutes, it seems that it would have required Krishnaji rushing around quite hard, which I didn’t think he was in a condition to do, and from which I didn’t see him deriving much real benefit. Krishnaji seemed to be quite relieved at the very large possibility of not having to do this extra bit of rushing around on what was already going to be a taxing voyage.
